You have to think we should know in the next few days. I dont see the Penguins giving him forever to decide, either he wants it or he doesnt.
Friedman mentioned he might want to wait to hear what Ottawa has to say if a new ownership group is chosen. In that case, I think you move on. If he has second thoughts or if we are viewed by him as the back up option, find a different guy who is hungry for the GM job. Either guy Elliote mentioned would be good with me. I'm not as hot on JB as some, but I think you could do a lot worse.
Either way I just want a resolution and decision. |

Dubas failed to sign his franchise player to a max deal to take him past UFA years and overpaid a free agent despite that player only wanting to play for the Leafs.
Best GM ever |

The draft is a month away too. That's not a lot of time to bring in a President, GM, AGM's, analytics department, scouting department, and establish a full offseason plan. If he isn't sure by Friday I'd have to go in another direction. |

Dubas made some bad moves. But those two arnt great examples. That franchise player had a say in that deal and was dubas gonna face a hold out with their star player? He already proved he’d look out for number one when he went to Europe. And Tavares would have gotten more on the open market. |

If Chiarrelli could sign McDavid to a max deal, especially after McDavids expression of dread at the lottery drawing, no reason Dubas couldn't do the same with Matthews
As for Tavares, if he only wanted to play for TO, Dubas should have gotten him to much less, as that's quickly become an albatross.
But hey, he likes charts, so he's a great GM. |

Well our franchise players are locked up and have little money to spend on big FA’s. His biggest blemishes aren’t relevant here . |

True. And to his credit, he did make some trades that worked out. I just don't think he's the great messiah some people make him out to be. |

I won’t argue he’s a good gm. I don’t think the evidence is there. But I don’t believe for a second he wanted the deal for mathews. I think that only happens if mathews said 5 years or nothing. I don’t think dubas could afford facing a hold out. He took the deal assuming he had 5 years to work it out
And Tavares never said he would only play for Toronto. Just that it was a dream of his. He gave them like a .5-1 mil a year discount. Nothing outrageous. If dubas offers 8 or 9 mil and la offered 12? Pretty sure he takes the 12.
No. Good examples of dubas bungling is “promising “ nylander he wouldn’t trade him and then not trading him or Marner after taveres was acquired to get a better d.

They’re socialists/communists. Liberals and libertarians now identify more with conservative values. Shows you how hardcore the left has become. |

Totally fair. To me he isn’t a messiah, but a competent head to lead this team through the last few years they have. And also a 100000x upgrade on the last 2 years. |

I don't think anybody around here thinks that. I don't think any of the local sports guys thinks he's necessarily a good hire. I've mostly heard "what's he ever won?"
I didn't want a fossil and I'd be a little concerned with a first timer considering the coach wields so much power. Dubas is probably the best they can get all things considered. If it took a lot of convincing and a boat load of cash, I'd prefer they look elsewhere however. |
